“Bach, Burridge and into the Amazon” Solo Performance
When I perform I play a 'cello which is one hundred and seventeen years old, and combine it with modern technologies to create contemporary compositions. I utilise the guitar “looping” pedals with their sampling capacity and song storage and with them have realised the potential to create multi-layered pieces in a live setting . The 'cello is a dynamic instrument and apart from melodic lines it can be a tool to create a myriad of tones and colours. I then started to experiment amplifying the 'cello when playing Bach and going from Bach to Burridge incorporating the sampling looping pedal. Various pieces were composed with a view to being able to recreate them live. “Reverie” performed live:
The production "Into the Amazon" developed through integrating my recordings of daily life amongst the Xavante Indians of Brazil within my compositions. I made these recordings over a period of years when I lived with the tribe. The recordings provide a backdrop against which I perform utilising the sampling pedal. Through embracing the current sampling technology and combining it with the ‘cello an exciting and contemporary program is created. In performing “Into the Amazon” I have the opportunity to express through the 'cello my response to having spent a period of my life amongst the Xavante tribal group in Brazil and further share the experience through musical performance. The sonic journey that ensues is a virtual audible biography. Performance length 2 x 35 minutes with interval. Venues:
