New CD production
"Duos for Pedal Steel Guitar and 'Cello with BJ Cole playing Pedal Steel Guitar and Emily Burridge playing the 'cello.
On a baking hot day in July of this year BJ Cole and I set up a recording situation with Jon Baker of Norwich (UK) engineering. The location: Oulton Chapel, Norfolk.
With mics set up close and around the room we worked through our concert program, at the end of the day we had been playing for eight hours and had recorded eleven tracks.
Jon then set to mastering the recordings and the result is the production of a limited edition CD featuring;
"Out of the Blue2" - (Burridge) (you can listen to this on my myspace page)
"Gnossienne no 1, no 3, no 4, & no 5 "(Satie arr.Cole/Burridge)
"Dido's Lament" (Purcell arr. Cole/Burridge)
"Adagio from Appalachian Spring" (Copland)
The unique combination of Emily's 'cello and BJ's Pedal Steel Guitar create orchestral sounds in a new and refreshing context; weaving around one another in a sinuous dance of infectious sound and rhythm.
In their concerts they combine to perform their own compositions alongside works by Erik Satie, Debussy, Purcell and Copeland. These pieces then provide a window through which they enter a world of intuitive improvisation and sonic adventure.
Over the past year, BJ Cole and Emily Burridge have established a strong reputation with their unique musical interpretations.
The duo have performed at a number of Guitar Festivals including:
The Wirral International Guitar Festival, Birkenhead, The Lewes Guitar Festival, E.Sussex, as well as The Rochefort En Accordes Festival, France,
St Firmin's Church, Lincs (as part of the Music In Quiet Places series), and regular appearances at the Royal Festival Hall Foyer. The duo are equally at home in more intimate venues such as Otterton Mill, Devon, which they played earlier in the year.
